At their regularly scheduled meeting on June 7th, members of Ashland's Town Council recognized Mrs. Susan Richards for her years of service as a Planning Commissioner for the Town.
Mrs. Richards was appointed in May 2020 to complete Felix Stevens' term of service and was reappointed for another term of service on June 15th, 2021. Town Council presented a resolution to Mrs. Richards, commending not only her service as a Planning Commissioner, but also in recognition of her considerable service to this community as an "advocate for affordable housing, community diversity, pedestrian access, and a constant defender of the Comprehensive Plan in her decision making."
Town Council and Town staff would also like to express their gratitude to Mr. Bob Flanagan, who was first appointed to the Planning Commission on November 9, 2011. He served as Vice Chair and most recently Chair of the Planning Commission. His final term concluded in June. Mr. Flanagan was appointed elected Vice Chair on August 9, 2017, and Chair on February 13, 2019. Mr. Flanagan was integral in leading the Comprehensive Plan Update in 2016 and the update of the Ashland Transportation Plan in 2020.
To fill those vacancies, Tim Merrill was appointed at the Town Council meeting on May 3rd, 2022, Amy Hey was appointed and Lynda Wright was reappointed at the Town Council meeting held on June 21st, 2022.
The Town of Ashland Planning Commission serves as an advisory board to Town Council by reviewing and providing recommendations on town land use issues. The Planning Commission reviews and provides recommendations on rezonings, conditional use permits, and the town Capital Improvement Program. They are also responsible for preparing the town's Comprehensive Plan.
