What would you like voters to know about you?

I am a 40-year resident of Ashland, a product of Hanover County Public Schools, a husband, a father, and a grandfather. Though recently retired, I have years of experience in housing, human services, and workforce development. I believe my experience serves both the present and future of our community because all people need homes and opportunity to thrive in the “day-to-day”, and in making a living, and enjoying life here in Ashland. 

I've served our community many ways over the years including in local government: Ashland's Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission, and 10 years on Town Council, as well as on Hanover County's Planning Commission for the Ashland District. I've enjoyed serving with the current Council team and am also pleased there are new candidates as well for the voter's choice in November! 

I'm offering up my experience again, wishing the best for each candidate and trusting the voters to weigh experience or change. It’s true, new voices may bring fresh air, yet experience may keep the air “fresh”. Cheers to Ashland, democracy, and the people’s will for Ashland’s best in November! Last point: the “players” do matter, but it takes a team approach to serve the Town best!

What characteristics or principles are most important for a member of Ashland's Town Council to possess?

A cooperative nature, a love for our community and people, a willingness to listen, learn, and speak with respect and purpose, and the dedication to do the work required.

What is the biggest issue facing the Town of Ashland, and how might you suggest the community/Town address it?

Retaining the small-town heart, feel, and experience of Ashland can only be done by first, caring about all of Ashland's people, businesses, and organizations, and secondly, carefully weighing every facet of every need or opportunity that arises in and around the Town.

What three words would you use to describe Ashland?

Unique. Invaluable. Home.

Why do you want to serve in public office?

I want to serve my community to be sure everyone is respected, heard, and given the opportunity to speak up for Ashland's best today and best tomorrow.
