Commend or Complain
Voice a Complaint or Commendation
Input from the citizens we serve is very important to the department in our evaluation of the services we provide. Your comments, both those which may be critical and those which are complimentary, are very useful in ensuring that we perform our mission efficiently, effectively, and professionally
Please note: If you are reporting an emergency, crime or incident that requires an immediate police response call 911 (emergency) or 365-6140 (non-emergency) for an officer to respond.
Commendations
To commend a member of the department please choose one of the following methods:
- You may be asked if we can direct your call to the on-duty supervisor or commander in order to better determine the officer whose assistance you are commending.
- You may share a compliment verbally by contacting the Office of the Chief of Police at (804) 798-1227.
- You may use the form below to submit the commendation online. Should you choose to submit anonymously, none of your personal information will be gathered.
The Ashland Police Department received 45 internal and external commendations in 2022.
Complaints
To make a complaint, you may choose from one of the following communication options:
- You are not required to make a written complaint for the Police Department to investigate the conduct or actions of an employee. If you choose, you may make a complaint in writing (typically a letter) to preserve a record of your report. You may deliver your complaint in person or mail it to (you will receive a written reply to your complaint):

In 2022 the Department received a combined from internal and external sources 12 complaints. Three of them were sustained, with the remaining being unfounded or not sustained.
