Skatepark Renovation Community Input Session

Provide your feedback on two options to renovate and update the Kiwanis Pufferbelly Skatepark on September 25, 2023 from 5-6:30pm. Hosted at the skatepark, community members will have the opportunity to share their thoughts on two potential designs:

  •  Option one: a replacement of the existing equipment with addition of a few small pieces plus concrete pad expansion and resurfacing
  •  Option two: a complete redesign of the park with new features plus concrete pad expansion and resurfacing

Feedback may also be emailed to ehouck@ashlandva.gov or via phone to 804-299-3236 prior to September 25th.

Anticipated renovation to begin Fall 2023 and reopening in Spring 2024.

Thanks to the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), Ashland is hosting a BioBlitz September 1st - 30th in support of the Parks for Pollinators campaign!

What’s a BioBlitz? The Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz is an event where community members create a snapshot of the variety of wildlife that can be found in the Town of Ashland. Using an app called iNaturalist, participants take pictures of plants, insects, and animals, which are then identified and categorized by the app. This helps us understand what plants and pollinators are in Ashland, and how we can better protect pollinators and other important wildlife in our community.

Sign up in a few easy steps!

  1. Download the iNaturalist app on your phone.
  2. Create an account (make sure to confirm your email address in your email account before next step; you may have to re-login to your account on the app after).
  3. Click the "projects" icon in the bottom left-hand corner.
  4. Search "Parks for Pollinators 2023: Ashland, Virginia," click on the project, and click "join."
  5. To make an observation, go to the "observe" icon. Once complete, your observation will automatically populate in the project.

For more information on this campaign and pollinators, visit the NRPA website
